Tonya Allen Joins AMI Public Affairs Team

The American Meat Institute (AMI) announced
today that Tonya R. Allen has joined the
Institute as its new manager of public affairs
and online editor.
In her new position,
Allen will handle inquiries from trade press
and general media, draft and update
publications and oversee more than one dozen
AMI and coalition Web sites.
Allen
joins AMI with a strong background in political
communication, having served for the past two
years as the press secretary for Congressman
Nick Rahall (D-WV). In that capacity, she
handled national and local media relations,
wrote a weekly column distributed throughout
West Virginia's Third Congressional District
and managed the Congressman’s Web site and
e-newsletter.
Allen previously worked
as a copy editor for the Martinsburg Journal, a
daily newspaper in West Virginia's eastern
panhandle, and also served as the editor of
Community Development Publications Housing
Market Report in Silver Spring, Maryland.
Allen earned both her bachelor's degree
in journalism and her master of fine arts
degree in creative writing from West Virginia
University in Morgantown. She was raised on a
cattle ranch in West Virginia.

knowledge of agricultural issues through her
own experience on a livestock operation and her
time spent on Capitol Hill will be a real asset

their suppliers throughout North America .

educational services to the industry.
